2010 Lessons

Go where most don't, you'll be rewarded.
Grand Traverse of Baxter Park
When you run a certain race enough times, you look forward to the little things.
Moose at the Mid-Winter 10 Mile Classic - that is Hard Core in Maineglish
Never miss an opportunity for a beauty break...
Daicey Pond, Baxter State Park
...or to skinny dip with friends in northern Maine in March.
Yeah, it was cold, but totally worth it.
Trust your crazy ideas, they just might take off (here's to you Fatty, you sure know how to get us to do crazy stuff to fight cancer).
I rode 100 miles on my trainer. 5 days before a marathon. Yup, I am a nimrod, and I am doing it again!
Caratunk has superwomen.
Beth and I, Sugarloaf Marathon, my favorite marathon.
Nothing is better than getting greeted by a friend after a cold 16 mile run.
Bailey greeting me after one of my colder training runs.

When you get the opportunity to do the right thing, even if it seems small, do it.

Hummingbird rescue

If you can't get into an ice bath, take a stream bath.  The effects are similar, except your mind recovers more than your legs.
My private pool
Riding with friends is awesome.
Scouting Timberman bike course
Being at an Ironman start is hands down one of the most exciting things I have experienced.  Ever.
Ironman Lake Placid swim start
I am glad I took the left.
Crossroads - left means Ironman, right means...something else.
206 days until Ironman Lake Placid!!!
It was worth standing in line, right Jon?
Meat beaters after an 80 mile ride are a sign of love and support.
My 87 year old grandmother, still there cheering me on!
Patience is a virtue.

I have a hard time waiting to recover after a race, Bailey is all about waiting.
We are pretty small in the scheme of things.
Hamlin ridge, Baxter State Park
Getting up at 3am and climbing a mountain in the dark in order to summit before everyone else - totally worth it.
Katahdin, looking toward Pamola Peak, Baxter Park Maine
Sometimes you have to get really close to something to feel its power.
John and I, Grand Falls, Dead River
Hold on tightly to the ones you love.
Me and Pop
If you give something a try and think positively - good things happen.
I am on Team Trakkers!! YEAH YEAH YEAH!

Be thankful for all of your gifts...
Nana under ware and all
Wishing you all a safe and Happy New Year!

These are great! You incorporated everything in a beautiful and seamless fashion.

Great post. I need to email you for a good daily guide on how to spend 7 to 10 days in Maine this summer with the family.

This is a super post - lots of beautiful pictures and great insight!

If you think watching an Ironman is exciting... just wait 206 days until you are doing an Ironman... BEST feeling in the world! :)

The stream bath sounds amazing - much better than a bathtub icebath! "HAAHD CAW" cracked me up; when I saw the picture I assumed it was an acronym for something.

Happy New Year!

Excellent Recap Mandy! I so need to visit Caratunk!

Oh and as I was looking at the pics that song, "Turn!Turn!Turn!" by the Byrds was going through my head - awesome!

This may have been one of the most profoundly moving posts I've read in a while. Thank you for the succinct words and the amazing pictures. Love Bailey too. Ended up with a Newfie over a Bernese but I love those dogs :)

Awesome post! Have a happy New Year!

Um, you made a mistake in uploading one of your pics, there was caption that you'd show 3 girls skinny dipping in northern Maine in March, but I only saw 3 fully clothed girls. Can you please fix that or I'm gonna have to ask for my money back.

BTW, that Baily is now my 2nd favorite dog in the world.

Mandy, this is probably the best recap/reflection post I've read! :) Hope you have a fabulous New Year's and looking forward to all of the things that 2011 will bring to you!

This is one of the best year end blogs I've read. I love the pics, although, the hummingbird picture almost made me cry (yeah, I'm a sissy when it comes to birds)! Your surroundings make me want to dream and you motivate me to act on those dreams. Thanks for that! Happy New Year!

Sorry for the delay in commenting but at home I have a Mac and I don't succeed in posting the comments on your blog (I don't understand why).
I like this kind of post full of pictures and quotes. As animalist I appreciate the photos of Bailey and the little bird.

love the year in photos. Wait.. are you WEARING the underwear in that last one? When I saw it the first time I thought you were holding them up, but it definitely appears that you are WEARING them in the this one. CLASSIC. love it!
