Beating the Heat

It is freaking hot around here.  I literally didn't want to put my pants on to go to work today.  But that would have looked kind of funny, me walking up to a processor operator in my undies and talk about the trail system he is cutting (see link if you want to know what a processor is).

I just don't think he would take me seriously in my underware and work boots.

So I slid (sticking the whole way from fumidity) into my Carharts, put on my work boots, and headed out to work.  I was distracted all day, thinking about getting home and sitting in my private stream pool the whole time.
My private stream pool, looking downstream.

The view upstream.

Pleasant Pond Stream is my property line, and just down stream from my house my neighbor built a pool that you can sit in and cool off.  It is pretty awesome, and I plan on heading out there tonight after my swim workout.

I am so thankful I got my bike ride in this morning, it was totally worth the 4:30 am wake up.  I was going to run for my second workout today, but I am changing that plan to a nice long wetsuit-free swim.  Seriously, at 95 degrees, all you can do is swim in my world.

I hear you Bob, KC, and Jeff - I am a wimp.

I know I do need to do some heat training - maybe tomorrow when it is down to 85.

That natural pool looks soooo inviting! Perfect way to recover tired legs. Enjoy.

Are you taking reservations @ Domain de Caratunk? I could really use that stream right now. Saw 103.2 on the weather.....and that is no radio station!

We need to create a T-shirt that says:
Embrace the Fumidity
Embrace the Suckage

My son would piss his pants if he saw that processor!

That settles it, I am coming there NOW, this 102˚F shit is old already.

I ran like a schmuck this morning and have survived to tell the tale.

oh my god I am so jealous of your stream. yesterday I sucked it up and swam in the public city pool because I was so f-ing hot!

So we're in agreement? Road trip to Caratunk? That stream and your lake justbeat anything near my house.

That stream/pool is just amazing!!! Do you ever see snakes in it? or is it a really cold mountain spring? I love the really cold mountain springs -- usually to cold for snakes!

Your not a wimp.... just heat challenged..

Zippy - that is right, I was thinking it was good recovery!

Jon - Casa de Caratunk is open! Love the T-shirt idea!

Regina - At least you ran! Your son could come to work with me, he would really pee his pants at all the big loud machines!

Alexa - I am lucky for my lakes and streams, that is for sure! Pool sounds so tough to me in the heat!

Kovas - Come on up!

Jeff - I have a better one, but it is across the river. No poisonous snakes in Maine, no snakes in the stream. It is coolish, not frigid. The lake it comes from is spring fed.

Bob - thanks. I still think I might be a wimp.

Derek - I am happy to be running - low miles, but at least I am out there. HA kick it, good one.

your cooling pool is awesome! you are so lucky to be able to have paradise in your backyard. Makes up for not having a pool near by in a big bad way!

My wife and I escaped NYC and will be in Maine on Friday. We stopped in Cape Cod where it is a cool 98. Much better than the 100 we left on Long Island, right? I don't know.

Oh my gosh, your little private pool looks heavenly! I am a little jealous as it reminds me of summer childhood days in the country:)

I have never been so happy to have open water swim as my training session as I was last night. At least when we ran the sun was going down.

Love the pics of the stream, looks gorgeous out there.

Heat is heat...it just plain sucks and then you add the freaking humidity and it's a whole other circle of hell! But at least you have a pretty little stream in your hell...we just have rain which causes more humidity!
I vote for underwear and boots at work.

Let me at that stream right now ;)

I agree, great time for swimming, let's hope the weather becomes more run friendly soon...that or we need refridgerator suits!

ok... i was going to post a comment as soon as i clicked on processor, but i waited and read the whole blog.

NOW, ... I need to hide my woody I got when I saw what that machine is actually called. You have NO FRICKIN IDEA HOW BAD I WANT TO RUN ONE OF THOSE MACHINES JUST FOR ONE DAMN DAY!!!!!!! OOOOOHHHHHHH MANNNNNN!!!!!!!! PHEW... getting control of myself... deep breathes, slow the breathing, in with the good air, out with the bad.

OK. I'm cool. Don't click back on the processor pic Matt... Don't DO IT!

I take trees down with measly chain saws... must upgrade.

OK, as for the carharts. I wear my coveralls religiously, typically its just me and my boxers in there. Those are the most comfortable invention ever. I even have a thinsulate pair for when I am shoveling sidewalks at some of our plowing accounts. I am sure you have some serious winter ware for up there.

Nice stream there. I have a couple that would rival that by my house... But there are a ton of people around whereas you have a private sanctuary there.

Way to get the workouts in. What time you start work up there? Loggers start before the sun comes up. You gotta be riding early on that bike!!!

That water looks A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!!!!! I don't know how you do it in carharts all day! :)

KC, Jeff, and Bob have the weather we are use to now, how that happened?

As for the swim, no racing, as long as you can make the 1:10 cut off is all I looking for.
